I hope you're having a wonderful summer! Can you believe that you're going to be first graders in just a few weeks? I know that you've enjoyed reading Flat Stanley, the first book you'll read as a first grader. I love the book Flat Stanley so much that I've even read the Spanish version, Stanley el Plano. When I read Flat Stanley, I sent my Stanley to a little town in Alabama. Last year's first graders sent one Stanley to Iraq, another to the White House, and all sorts of other places!

I'm curious...where will you send your Flat Stanley? I'll be watching and waiting for your response :)

The very hungry caterpillar

Okay, Pre-K students and parents:

I know that one of your assigned books is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Some of you are even reading the Spanish version, La oruga muy hambrienta. What do you think about going to see a play of The Very Hungry Caterpillar? I noticed in the Athens paper today that The Very Hungry Caterpillar is coming to the Classic Center! Maybe we could talk to the Pre-K teachers about setting up a field trip for us....Tickets seem reasonable--$4/child. Gas shouldn't be too bad since we're only going 30 minutes away. I'm sure Ms. Carmen would be happy to drive one of the busses....

Let me know your thoughts!

JES Summer Reading

Happy summer! Feliz verano! I hope that you are all enjoying your summer! It won't be long until we're back at JES, so I hope you're caught up on your summer reading....

The purpose of this blog is to allow parents and students to discuss their thoughts about the books selected for summer reading. Maybe you want to discuss what you liked about the books, other suggestions for reading, or set up book talks in your neighborhood. Whatever the plan, I hope that you will use this space to begin discussing the assigned books. Remember, there will be several different discussions because each grade level has been assigned different books. However, that does not mean that you are limited to discussing solely the books from your or your child's grade level. Let's get started!
